The European Landscape Convention has leaded in the last years
at a bigger evaluation of the Landscape as a very interesting
theme, as a matter of the whole population and concerning the
whole territory.
To make the landscape coming up again, involving actively the
population, means firstly to recognise the peculiarities and
the uniqueness of each single landscape, as a representation
of the |
|
peculiar and unique relationship between man and environment, in its historical changes.
It requires a wide action of awareness raising and of education.
In this context, the project proposes on the one hand to study
and to deep the existing knowledge about one particular category
of landscapes, karst landscapes, and, on the other hand, to share
this knowledge, so that it can become part of the |
|
common heritage.
People can in this way know better the resources of their territory.
The school’s involvement should represent an effective tool
for this diffusion and popularisation action, typical of the “Cultura2000”
projects.
In this frame, the Museum (that co-ordinates the whole project)
plays its role of “cultural mediator”, between the
research and the education worlds. |

The uniqueness of karst landscapes, that are widespread but
well known only where large caves exists, represents a very
interesting “experimental field” to propose actions
devoted to a better knowledge, comparison and popularisation,
and to improve the acquisition of more responsibilities towards
territorial and environmental matters. Moreover, the through-time
reading of remote and recent changes could lead to re-discover
near but often unknown worlds: landscape can do the function
of a “knot” among different cultures and among different
generations. |
|
The European dimension of this project is guaranteed by the involvement
of researchers and schools coming from three countries. The value
of this international opening comprehends two aspects:
- on the scientific level, the comparative analyses of three karst
areas can take important results to understand the role of different
factors in the natural and human evolution of these landscapes;
- on the educational level, the international opening and the exchange among pupils of information concerning their own
|
|
territories are very rich of potential values in the
fields of environmental education, scientific education as well
as “citizens” education.
The project provides for the use of different tools, both traditional
and innovative (new technologies). An Internet site will be construct,
not just as a support, but as a very effective tool, concerning
the objectives of the project itself.
