School of Annot
8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Today, Friday 25th March 2005, Philippe (Karstologist) and Florent (student in geography) have come from the
University of Nice - Sofia Antipolis- to talk to us (ce2 cm1 and cm2) about the rocks and the lanscapes of Annot and
Méailles region. Florent has shown us pictures about Annot landscape. Philippe has given us explanations about the
differences between some rocks such as sandstones, marls and limestones.
The Landscape game
3 pupils have to go outside the classroom. They come in one by one. They have to describe in a few words the landscape in
front of them. At the end, they don't see the same things.
Méailles
1:30 to 5:00 pm
The bus had let us close to the cave. A group went with Florent to do " landscape reading ", and another group stayed with Pascal, the speleologist, in order to visit Pertus cave.

Pertus cave
We went into the woods; there was a rope. Pascal had told us not to touch it because
of the cliff below. We reached the cave. The entry of the cave looks like a castle. There
are loopholes because by the Middle Age, it was used as a hiding place: inside, the
people of the village protected themselves from attacks. Only few times ago, the
cave was used as a sheepfold. This cave maintains a temperature below 12 °C all
along the year.
Méailles landscape
We visited a small hill. Florent gave us two sheets: the first one was a map of Méailles
(see the picture), and the second one was a blank sheet designed for writing down
what we saw. We saw cultivated fields, forest, a " robine ", a moor, and Méailles
village.
